Saatchi & Saatchi’s work for Lexus has scooped Silver in the Press category at Cannes, with DDB Sydney ad McCann Melbourne also picking up metal in the category.
This year judges said they had rewarded “simplicity” in the category, with the Grand Prix going to TBWA’s ads for the iPad Mini.
Turkish judge Ayse Bali said: “That way smaller countries in advertising will be more inspired to submit work if you do not need those huge budgets and incredible craftsmanship to win awards at Cannes.”
Entries were down slightly on last year, but judges stressed that did not mean print is a dying medium.
This year’s haul of eight gongs is double last year’s efforts from Down Under.
Australian 2013 Press Lions winners:
Suburbs/Downtown/Estate, Lexus, Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney (3)
Clutch/Break, Volkswagen, DDB Sydney (2)
