Police investigate Charles Saatchi's alleged attack on Nigella Lawson

Advertising legend Charles Saatchi has been pictured apparently choking his wife, celebrity chef Nigella Lawson, while dining at a London restaurant, according to UK press reports.

British Police are now looking into the pictures involving Saatchi, who co-founded advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi in the early 1980s before starting M&C Saatchi.

Meanwhile, Lawson has reportedly been pictured leaving the home she shares with the billionaire with a suitcase.

Saatchi had reportedly left the house 90 minutes earlier.

Britain’s Sunday People first published the series of nine pictures which were taken while the couple ate at seafood restaurant Scott’s in Mayfair. Click here to see them.

The tabloid said Saatchi grasped Lawson around the neck four times, tweaked her nose and pushed both of his hands into her face.

“Twice Nigella jerked her head backwards as if in fear…by the end of the meal she was clearly distraught and in tears,” the publication said.

Twitter has been set alight with words of support for the TV chef and questions as to why no onlookers intervened.

Melbourne radio station 3AW has been caught in the crossfire for a tweet as well as comments host Dee Dee Dunleavy made in a blog post and on air.

In a blog the radio presenter questioned why Lawson tweeted a picture of a buttered bagel on June 15: “as though nothing else was on her mind but food”.

“That’s not the response we were after, Nigella.”

“Nigella, like it or not, you’re a beacon for women from all walks of life. If you want us to buy your books and watch your shows on how to run our kitchens, then we need you to make a stand on domestic violence.”

The statements have been labelled as “victim blaming”.

One twitter user said: “@DeeDeeDunleavy @3AW693 you very, very clearly have absolutely no idea about DV and the effect it has on its victims. Just appalling…..you’re asking a DV victim to become the face of DV or you’ll boycott her.”

Another said “Who approved this?” while someone else said it was “disgusting”.
