OMD recruits telecoms expert for Telstra account

OMD has recruited Vanessa Nicol to fill the head of Telstra role from M&C Saatchi where she was senior business director for Optus.

Nicol replaces Tom Sutton who is returning to the UK.

She has more than 16 years experience in telecommunications, before joining M&C Saatchi in 2011 she was Virgin Mobile’s head of acquisition marketing. Nicol has also worked with BT and Optus.

Peter Horgan, OMD Australia’s chief executive, said: “Vanessa is a strategic-thinking, results driven marketing professional, with unrivalled category experience and a proven track record of managing and launching effective multi-channel communication initiatives that drive business and brand growth. We are very excited about the addition of Vanessa’s leadership and business knowledge on this market leading client.”

Telstra’s CMO Mark Buckman added: “Telstra have worked with OMD for the past 7 years, and over the past 18 months we have extended our relationship with them to include a deeper strategic remit. They work with us as a true strategic business partner and do an exceptional job managing our complex business in a quickly evolving landscape. I look forward to Vanessa’s contribution taking this to the next level.”

Nicol will report to Aimee Buchanan, general manager of OMD Sydney, when picks up her new post on January 13.
