Nine Network today refused to be drawn on the latest controversy involving bookmaker Tom Waterhouse (pictured), who enjoys a lucrative sponsorship of Nine's NRL coverage.

Over the weekend, outspoken adland veteran and horse owner John Singleton alleged his horse trainer of 20 years, Gai Waterhouse, leaked sensitive information to her bookmaker son Tom about champion racehorse More Joyous.

Singleton, who's had 26 Group 1 winners during his association with Gai Waterhouse, removed all his horses from her stable over the weekend as the spat escalated, with Racing NSW chief steward Ray Murrihy demanding Singleton "put up or shut up" on the allegations.

The controversy comes hot on the heels of Channel Nine’s recent decision to bench Tom Waterhouse from its NRL commentary team as it looked to limit the damage of the public backlash against the incorporation of gambling into live sport.

When B&T contacted Nine to ask whether this latest negative publicity surrounding Tom Waterhouse would impact its relationship with the bookmaker, the network declined to comment.

Tom Waterhouse has said he's seeking legal advice to sue for defamation.

"Stunned and upset by Singo's comments regarding @GaiWaterhouse1 and me. They are completely false and wrong. I'm meeting with lawyers today," he tweeted.
