News' print division to be named News Corp

News Corporation has confirmed former Australian journalist Robert Thomson will be head of its publishing division when the company splits next year.

The newly formed arm will retain the News Corp name, and incorporate all the print publications in the News stable, as well as the whole of the Australian division.

The split was announced in June as part of a plan to separate the highly profitable entertainment assets, under a division to be named Fox Group, from the controversial and less profitable print stable, to protect the reputation.

Thomson, currently editor-in-chief and managing editor of the Wall Street Journal, will be the CEO of News Corp, a name chosen to carry on the heritage of the Rupert Murdoch run firm.

Murdoch will remain as chairman of News Corp, and be the chairman and CEO of Fox Group.

Thomson said: “I am looking forward to working with him and our colleagues around the world to use the company's esteemed past as a platform for the future.

“The global value of content is growing as the means of digital distribution multiply, providing us with a remarkable opportunity to profit from our employees' ingenuity and integrity.

“We have a collection of extremely successful companies, and our goal is to make the new News Corp far more than the sum of its distinguished parts."
