Channel Seven won the free-to-air battle last night, according to the OzTam, with a 20.1% of share, narrowly squeezing out Channel Nine with 19.8%.
News, news and more news ruled another lacklustre evening with Channel’s news interpretation of the genre taking out the top spot with 1.17 million views. Seven’s version took second place with 1.14 and the ABC’s five-minute evening update rounded out the top three with 1.01 million.
Outside of these top three, no other program managed to crack a million viewers. ABC’s 7pm news bulletin came in at fourth, yet only managed to attract an audience of 993,000.
The 16-39 year old demographic was won by the Footy Show, with Home & Away being the second most popular show among this target group and Mrs Brown’s Boys was third.
The ABC had a good evening with its increasingly popular The Checkout consumer affairs comedy taking out tenth position with 840,000 viewers. And just to show we’re still not ready to become a republic just yet, the ABC’s sentimental look at our reigning monarch went one better and took out ninth position for the evening with 857,000 viewers.
