EXCLUSIVE: The Myer media pitch has moved closer to a decision after the retail giant confirmed to B&T that the race for the $50million-plus account is now down to three, with a decision on the final two imminent.
B&T understands the three agencies left contesting the account to be incumbent Ikon, PHD and Starcom. GroupM agencies Mediacom and Mindshare were widely rumoured to be in the running but it now appears they will not contest.
"This week we have received pitches for the final three agencies left in the process,” a Myer spokesperson told B&T, without disclosing the names of the agencies. "We expect a decision on the final two to be made shortly and these agencies will be notified over the course of the next week.”
It's rumoured in the market that the sticking point with the other agencies previously involved was commercial terms.
With Ikon attempting to hang on to the lucrative Myer account it won in 2009, James Greet (picutred) has confirmed to B&T that he will officially take over the reins as CEO of the agency on 15 July.
In April, Greet parted ways with Mindshare to take over as boss at Ikon, following the dramatic departure of Dan Johns.
Greet said the gardening leave that he’s been on with Mindshare since April officially ends tomorrow and he will take up his new appointment at Ikon on Monday week.
Greet added that having adhered to the gardening leave he’s had no hand in the Myer pitching process.
"I’ve had no insight whatsoever in to what’s going on with Myer … when I officially start with Ikon in a couple of weeks I'll be taking a look at all aspects of the business,” he said.
