Madison magazine axed

Madison magazine and website has been axed in Australia, with the final edition being the June 2013 publication.

The Madison website will be decommissioned on June 18.

The magazine and website are the latest to be axed by Bauer Media Group, which took over ACP Magazines at the end of 2012.

Bauer refused to confirm to B&T if Madison’s closure will result in any redundancies.

Matthew Stanton, Bauer Media CEO, said: “The decision to close a title is never easy but after recent and lengthy discussions with our joint venture partner, Hearst Magazines International, the conclusion was sadly drawn that for Madison to continue was no longer a commercially viable option.

“I would like to express my respect for the Madison team for the way in which they continued to deliver a wonderful product while rumours of closure swirled around them. They should be proud of their professional and committed effort.”

The closure of Madison follows speculation last month that Bauer’s Elle, due to launch in September, was going to oust Madison.

Madison’s demise also comes after the closure of Grazia magazine last month.

Since ACP’s takeover by German publishing house Bauer, Bauer has announced the launch of Women’s Fitness magazine, Grazia men’s edition and Elle magazine. The publisher also announced 24 job cuts in the company’s pre-press department in November and pulled the plug on Burke’s Backyard magazine.
