Libs’ stutter ad under fire

With federal election looming, both the Liberal Party and Labor parties will look to greatly increase their ad spend over the coming months to sway undecided voters.

With this in mind, the Liberal Party has just launched a new ad targeting one of Kevin Rudd’s newly announced MPs, Julie Collins, who stutters for around 10 seconds in response to a question in an interview.

The ad prompted the president of stutter support group Speak Easy, Diane Randall, to criticise the ad for its depiction of stuttering, as reported on

Randall said: "People who stutter are not less intelligent than people who don't, to imply that is wrong", before adding, "You wouldn't think in this enlightened age that people would be doing this."
