This bizarre looking thing is not some sort of pace probe, but a printer designed to print out every tweet on certain pre-programmed hashtags or feeds.
The brainchild of SapientNitro London, the Tweet Ticker made the longlist of the Innovation Lions, and is being set up in the press room at Cannes to record every tweet on this year’s event.
According to one of its inventors making people visualise the number of interactions on a certain trend or topic is a powerful way to show marketers in particular of the reach and scale of social media.
While they wrestled with most of the day to get it up and running it’s now sat in the corner of the press room spewing out tons of paper, it certainly demonstrates how popular the #canneslions hashtag is.
It has also apparently attracted the attention of a few large corporates, but don’t be expecting to get one in your living room just yet, as each u it has to be hand built by the team, and costs $9,000.
