EXCLUSIVE: Richard Curtis is stepping down as managing director of Interbrand.
Curtis’ next move it yet to be revealed and he is currently on gardening leave from Interbrand.
The Brit, who arrived in Australia in 2002 as an executive director at Landor Associates, has been with Interbrand since 2008.
He was promoted from general manager of Interbrand Sydney to managing director of the Sydney office in 2011.
He told B&T: “I have taken a huge amount of pride and pleasure in helping to turn around the agency, and working with Damian [Borchok] and the rest of the team to build the agency and get it to where it is now.
“Being able to work with some really talented people over the years, and providing them with opportunities to be as good as they can be has been a real highlight.”
Under Curtis’ leadership, Interbrand rebranded Telstra, which he cites as “putting us on the map”.
And a particular highlight for Curtis was seeing Interbrand Sydney named ‘agency of the year’ within the Interbrand network. “Being able to take the agency from nothing to a very big something was particularly rewarding,” he said.
He added: “It’s been a really difficult decision to leave Interbrand because I have spent so much time and energy over the past six years helping to build the agency. But I have been offered too good an opportunity to be able to take the next step and the next challenge.”
Curtis refused to confirm if he is staying in Australia and said his next move will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Damian Borchok, CEO of Interbrand Australia, told B&T that David Storey is stepping up from executive director to the role of general manager of the Sydney office, and Nick Davis will be general manager of the Melbourne office, also stepping up from the role of executive director.
