IPG Mediabrands hires 'finance wizard' for programmatic

IPG Mediabrands’ local analytics agency Anomaly has hired “finance wizard, John van Aarde, to develop mathematical models for programmatic trading.

He has a nine year career as an analyst and statistician in banking and finance and will use his skills to add financial modelling techniques to programmatic trading.

He will work closely with IPG Mediabrands’ programmatic division, Cadreon.

Jarrod Martin, managing director Anomaly, said: “John’s vast experience in developing mathematical models to deliver more efficient trading will directly apply to programmatic trading.”

“The key aspects of when to trade, how much to pay and the quantity of any trade closely correlates between stocks and programmatic inventory. We believe his skills will bring important new insights to clients.”

Van Aarde (pictured) joins the agency from banking group Nomura International where he was head of liquid market analytics. Before his four years with Nomura Van Aarde was with Lehman Brothers where he modelled and wrote algorithmic strategies for stock markets.

He has a PHD in Information Engineering and a Master of Sciences in Mathematical Modelling and Scientific Computing from Oxford University.
