Happy Birthday Twitter

Happy Birthday Twitter

Twitter Australia is focusing on three core audiences over the next few years; users, partnerships and advertisers and agencies.

Various aspects surround each different audience, with managing director, Karen Stocks, noting how Twitter is working with brands, advertisers and agencies to help them understand how they can use Twitter as a “real-time conversational platform to connect with customers or potential customers in real-time moments in a very authentic and engaging way”.

Slicing into a birthday cake, Twitter Australia’s office celebrates both Twitter’s eighth birthday today and this month the one year anniversary of the first Twitter Australia employee.

“We’re completely committed to the Australian market. Twitter Australia is one of the most important markets for Twitter globally and we’re here to work very closely with our users, partners and advertisers,” Stocks said.

Stocks is also ensuring the users who are engaging with the platform are getting real value out of Twitter.

The partnership team within Twitter Australia is also working very closely with television networks, sporting bodies, entertainers and other political identities to make sure these bodies understand the best practices within Twitter for their brands and how to get their consumers engaging.

Stocks further outlines how many TV shows are currently using Twitter to heighten the engagement for their brand and cites examples such as Seven’s My Kitchen Rules and Nine’s The Block.

The numerous goals Stocks has for Twitter Australia keeps her very busy.

“My needs here are to service the needs of the Australian market,” she said. “I want to make sure we’re doing that as effectively and as efficiently as possible. I’m always looking at what feedback we’re getting from the market, how do we improve as a business, how do we meet the needs of our users, our partners and our advertisers.”

Eight years ago today the first Tweet was from founder Jack Dorsey on March 21, 2006: “just setting up my twttr.”

In celebration of the eight years, Twitter has compiled a list of first Tweets from Aussie and international celebrities. Check them out below.
