With the last week of electioneering underway before the country goes to the polls, the parties are giving their election advertising one last push.

Both the Labor and the Liberal parties have been hitting the television networks hard with their campaigning.

The latest offensive from the Liberals is its ‘We can’t afford more broken Labor promises’ campaign, which spells out situations where it claims Prime Minster Kevin Rudd has not kept his word.

The ad campaign features old television footage showing Rudd stating “I believe in honouring my word” and “there are no circumstances under which I will return to the leadership of the Australian Labor Party in the future”.

The campaign puts the spotlight on issues including asylum seekers, private health rebates and the mining tax. The spot has attracted more than 83,000 views on YouTube:

Meanwhile the Labor has put out a new campaign called ‘All in good time’, which plays with footage of Tony Abbott saying “all will be revealed in good time” and “You’ll have our full fiscal statement in good time”:

The NSW Greens also yesterday kicked off its election campaign, with Greens leader Christine Milne addressing an audience at Sydney’s Metro Theatre.

Milne said: “We’re counting on NSW voters to put Cate Faehrmann into the Senate and help stop Tony Abbott getting control of both houses of parliament. Cate is a dedicated environmentalist and social justice advocate who has fought hard at the community and parliamentary level for a fairer and more compassionate society over many years.”

Faehemann added: “Only the Greens are prepared to stand up for what matters with compassionate and fully-costed policies for Australia’s future.”
