Facebook now has one million active advertisers globally, with small businesses leading the charge.
The million mark is an important milestone for the social giant that wants to boost revenue with advertising targeting its 1.1 billion users.
According to reports, the social giant’s global director of small business marketing solutions, Dan Levy, attributed a large chunk of the million to small businesses. There are 16 million small businesses with Facebook pages, but to be counted as active they need to have advertised in the last 28 days.
Carolyn Everson, vice president of global marketing solutions Facebook, thanked brands for choosing Facebook as an ad partner adding, “we take that responsibility very seriously”.
“Facebook provides all business an authentic voice at a scale that has never before been available.
“It is truly remarkable that more than one billion people are connected by one single platform and this is only the beginning.”
The milestone comes one week after Facebook announced plans to halve the number of advertising units it offers.
The changes, due to take place over the next six months, will see 15 of the network’s 27 units abolished.
In a blog post Levy asked small businesses to share their Facebook advertising stories: “I’d love to hear your stories. And I know you like to learn from each other. I invite you to share your stories at facebook.com/business/success, so that you can inspire more entrepreneurs to turn their passions into reality. We all start small. And whether you’re reaching your first customer or your millionth, I’m thankful that we’re a part of your business.”
The effectiveness of advertising on Facebook has been questioned by digital experts since the site started offering advertising.
