The Australian Red Cross, GPY&R Sydney and 12 Australian Artists have collaborated to raise funds and awareness about bushfire victims in their Embers for Empathy campaign.
Each artist has used charcoal from the Blue Mountains bushfires to create an artwork inspired by those directly impacted by the bushfires.
The esteemed group of artists will include Archibald Prize award winner, Paul Ryan.
“My immediate thought was to work with someone directly affected by the bushfires to create a portrait of them standing in the very place where they lost their home; which is how I met Jocelyn, the subject of my artwork,” Ryan explains.
The collection will be sold through a silent auction to raise funds for the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery at an exclusive event in Sydney on Thursday, 10th April.
Australian Red Cross CEO Robert Tickner hopes the collection will raise awareness of disaster prevention in the future.
The stunning artworks use charcoal as the primary or single material, with some artists incorporating other mediums into their works.
