Compare the Market asks Facebook fans to compare meerkats

Compare the Market’s doppelganger, Compare the Meerkat, has turned to the 65,000 Facebook fans of mascot Aleksandr Orlov to choose their favourite meerkat characters.

Aleksandr Orlov is the campaign’s Russian meerkat character whose narrative sees him frustrated by the confusion between his website and

Suggestions were put forward by Facebook users with Footykat and Bushkat chosen as the favourites, to join Surfkat and Crockat. The characters appear in the company’s TVCs.

George Meligonis, managing director of said: “It’s been great to get input from Aleksandr Orlov’s Facebook fans by allowing them to decide which new Australian meerkats they wanted to appear on Those who took part may have also spotted their meerkat suggestions incorporated into our latest advert. We plan to continue to use crowd-sourcing in the future as a tool to help fans connect with the brand and be a part of our decision making process for this creative campaign.”
