Bauer launches new science magazine

Bauer Media has launched a new science and nature magazine entitled World of Knowledge.

The publishing house described the upcoming title as “a new magazine crammed full of amazing stuff about the world we live in”, featuring content on new technologies, science, nature and local and world history.

It is based on Bauer Media Group’s overseas titles World of Wonder in Germany and Wonderpedia in the UK.

This is the third new title the company has launched since being acquired by Bauer late last year. The others include Women’s Fitness and the impending Elle.

In the same time frame it has also axed two underperforming titles: weekly fashion magazine, Grazia, and, only two days ago, the monthly fashion and lifestyle title, Madison.

World of Knowledge will be edited by Vince Jackson, former editor of Zoo and Top Gear.

In terms of target demographic, Bauer described the magazine as having “something for every member of the family”.

Jackson said: “Whether you’re nine or ninety, this is a publication to feed your mind. You’ll discover hundreds of new and amazing facts in every single issue.”

The Australian version will have locally produced content highlighting Australia’s natural wonders, wildlife, unique history and current affairs.

World Of Knowledge will be launched with a marketing budget in excess of $500,000, including more than 400,000 36-page sampler magazines distributed through selected Bauer titles, supported by in-magazine and radio advertising.

The launch issue is on sale April 17 priced at $4.95. Subsequent issues will cost $6.95.
