Bauer hires ex-News Limited sales boss Tony Kendall

Former News Limited sales head Tony Kendall has been picked up by Bauer Media as director of sales, replacing Leigh Monti who is moving from Sydney to Melbourne.

Kendall surprised many by announcing his sudden departure from the media group in November, after 23 years with them, saying he was looking for a “new challenge”.

Monti was only promoted to the role in September, replacing Louise Barrett who moved across to Network Ten, but will retain a role as sales director of the Bauer Trader Group in Melbourne.

Bauer CEO Matt Stanton said: “Tony’s connections and understanding of the advertising and marketing industry in Australia are second to none.

“We are very pleased that Tony has accepted our offer to join Bauer Media at this important time for the business as we continue to develop and grow our magazine brands across multi-platforms.

“Tony has a wealth of experience and a great reputation within the industry as a person who provides innovative and quantitative solutions for clients, as well as having considerable knowledge of editorial people and processes, marketing and events, digital and social media strategies and innovation.”

The magazine group, formerly ACP, was taken over last year by the German media giant, and is looking to stabilise its portfolio of titles.

In the new role Kendall will be working closely with Nine Entertainment Co’s group sales and marketing director Peter Witshire, as the products are cross-promoted on the Powered platform.

Kendall said: “I am delighted to be joining the Bauer Media Group as I have always enjoyed working for great brands and at Bauer Media the brands are without peer in Australia.

“Most importantly, Bauer's brands have the greatest reach to, understanding of and connectivity with women, and indeed all Australians.
“I am very excited by the prospect of harnessing this reach and engagement, across multiple platforms, for the benefit of our advertisers.”

Wiltshire added: “We are pleased that Tony is joining the team and he will continue to work closely with the other sales directors across the group as Leigh Monti did so well.

”I would also like to thank Leigh for his tireless efforts over the last 12 months. He has done a terrific job in a very tough environment.”
