Seven West Media magnate Kerry Stokes has been named “greatest Australian entrepreneur” of the last three decades by BRW Magazine.
Stokes is one of only 18 business people to feature on BRW’s annual Rich 200 list every list since 1984, when his personal wealth was estimated at $30m. Today his business empire is worth an estimated $2.47bn and the title of Australia’s 12th richest person.
Four other high profile media names join Kerry Stokes on the 2013 BRW Rich 200 list, the wealthiest of which is mining magnate and major Fairfax shareholder Gina Rinehart.
Rinehart, who currently controls a 15% stake of Fairfax, came in as the nation’s richest person. Rinehart retains her firm grip on the top spot despite the fall in her wealth to $22.02 bn from $29.17 bn last year.
One of the big movers on this year’s BRW Rich 200 is James Packer. His wealth has risen to $6bn from $5.21bn on the back of strong growth in his gambling interests taking him to the number three spot.
John Singleton is up $35m on last year to $355m and number 135 on BRW’s Rich 200.
Paul Ramsay of Ramsay Health Care, who owns a large stake in Prime Media, also featured in the top 200.
