ANZ poaches BankWest marketer as brand communications chief

EXCLUSIVE: ANZ has poached BankWest’s head of business marketing Damian Sharpley as its new head of brand communications.

In the new role Sharpley, who has been a senior account director with Lavender and Ogilvy, will be in charge of agency management, as well as the master brand communications strategy across Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

It is unclear whether the new appointment will have any affect on incumbent agencies Whybin\TBWA, which has masterminded the campaign involving Simon Baker playing his character Patrick Jane from The Mentalist, or PHD, which picked up the $60m media account last January.

Sharpley also spent a year leading the industry and core account marketing for IBM, before establishing BankWest’s business marketing department and designing the business marketing strategy for the 12-strong team.

BankWest confirmed the move, saying it was “in the throws” of appointing a successor for Sharpley. Its agencies are Host for creative and Ikon for media.

ANZ had not responded to B&T's request for comment at the time of publication.
