One of Australia’s most accomplished creatives has left 72&Sunny ahead of Wesley Hawes taking on the chief creative role.
Andy Flemming, who was previously group creative director of M&C Saatchi, has worked with 72&Sunny for three years.
In a LinkedIn post, Flemming said: “All good things come to an end. I’ve adored 72andSunny, and its unique, enthusiastic creative environment has seen my great friends Genevieve Hoey and Luke Martin go on to bigger (and truly gigantic) things. Dramatic restructures happen – and generally for the better, unfortunately it also means equally dramatic changes.
“I adore the agency, but as a free agent now I’m now around to nail all the stuff I’m relatively well-known for being able to nail well.”
Fleming thanked leaders Ross Berthinussen and Laura Popa “for the ride” and creative director Kia Heinnen, “who fought in the trenches with me”.
“We thank Andy for his creativity and passion during his time at 72andSunny,” Berthinussen told B&T in a statement. “We wish him all the very best for whatever lies ahead. We are excited to look to the future with Wez Hawes joining in January as our chief creative officer and the new energy and talent he will bring to our growing company.”
Fleming is regarded as one of the sharpest writers in the industry. During his 15-year stint at M&C Saatchi, his work included ‘Ricky Gervais’ and ‘Idris Elba’ for Optus, ‘Can Kids’ for Commonwealth Bank and ‘Matesong’ for Tourism Australia,
Alongside founding creative director, Tom McFarlane, he helped build the CommBank’s ‘Can’ brand. He has also penned poetry for Toni Collette, produced award-winning work for Google and has worked with clients including Steggles, TAB, and Woolworths.
