Deakin University has launched an innovative interactive campaign through Big Mobile that allows users to take a 360-degree virtual tour of the campus using their mobile phones.
The campaign, a collaboration between Big Mobile and Deakin’s advertising agency CumminsRoss, is to promote Deakin University’s upcoming Open Day is an Australian mobile advertising first that uses the accelerometer functionality of phones to create a truly interactive experience.
Rather than just using a mouse to click around, mobile users who click on a Deakin banner ad have to move in a 360-degree motion to experience what it’s like to be at the university with a tour of its Burwood Campus.
Graham Christie, group commercial director and partner at Big Mobile said: “Prospective university students want to see what life’s like on the campus before they commit and we’re now able to let them experience what Deakin is all about by using their mobile phones.
"We work closely with creative and media agencies to deliver pioneering brand experiences via mobile and tablet and this is a great example of that sort of collaboration."
Matt Hunt, media and strategy director at CumminsRoss added: “Deakin University's Open Day '360 degree campus tour explorer' saw us work closelywith Big Mobile to co-create a unique format. Connecting the dots on our existing access to Deakin's Google Business Places 360 degree images, the standard iPhone and Android accelerometer functionality and the expertise of our mobile partner in Big Mobile saw an Australian first mobile advertising format.”
