2DayFM's Kyle Sandilands takes a ratings hit

Embattled Sydney radio station 2Day FM has received a ratings hit with its Kyle & Jackie O breakfast show recording the markets largest drop.

The breakfast program, co-hosted by shock-jock Kyle Sandilands, has lost 1.8 percentage points in the year’s final ratings survey to sit on an audience share of 10.3%.

It is the second consecutive drop for the controversial breakfast show which dropped 0.6 points in Nielsen’s seventh survey of 2012 after posting a 2.1 point jump in the sixth survey.

The station, owned by Southern Cross Austereo, has been stealing global headlines for its notorious royal prank phone call.

The Today Network's loss of audience in breakfast continued in all other markets except Perth. The network's drive share also decreased in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

On the other hand, SCA’s Triple M station posted the market’s largest increase. In breakfast Triple M added 1.3 points to their share to reach 5.8%.

The tie between Nova’s funny men Fitzy & Wippa and WSFM’s breakfast duo, Jonesy & Amanda, has been broken with WSFM’s show now on 7.2% ahead of Fitzy & Wippa’s 6.3%.

2GB’s The Alan Jones Breakfast Show has continued its stranglehold on Sydney’s breakfast and now claims 18.2% of the slot after a 0.9 point increase.

The jump comes after a half-a-point swell in the previous survey which followed weeks of online petitions following Jones’ quip that the Prime Minister’s father “died of shame”.

The petitions pushed advertisers to withdraw support from the show and resulted in Macquarie Radio Network’s advertising suspension on the program, as SCA has now done on 2Day FM.

Mix 106.5’s one-year old breakfast show Rosso & Claire dropped 0.4 points to 3.5% with the result coming a week after Australian Radio Network announced a new breakfast program.

Sami Lukis & Yumi Stynes are set to co-host Sydney’s only all-female breakfast show from next year on Mix 106.5.

It is also the last survey for the Ant & Sami Lukis drive program which maintained its 5.2% share for Mix 106.5. ARN’s changes will see Tim ‘Rosso’ Ross take over drive next year.

Overall, Drive was steady in Sydney where the largest growth of 0.7 points went to 2GB and the biggest decrease of 0.6 points went to WSFM.

In Melbourne, Mix 101.1 nabbed 1.1 points from Gold 104.3’s Monday to Friday share to overtake the station which lost share in breakfast and drive.

Mix 101.1 increased its Monday to Friday from 6.1% to 7.2% while Gold dropped from 7.9% to 6.8%.

Mix’s growth was driven out of drive where it grew by point 1 to take 7.7%. The station’s breakfast share also increased with Chrissie & Jane adding 0.6 points to win 6.3%.

SCA’s FoxFM continued to lead the FM breakfast stations but dropped 0.4 points to 9.1%.

The largest drop in Melbourne’s breakfast market was recorded by 3AW which lost 1.1 points to take 19.4%. The station also slid 1.1 points in the previous survey.

The bad news for SCA’s Today Network continued in Melbourne’s drive slot where FoxFM experienced the market’s largest decrease of 1.6 points.

The station does still lead the FM stations on 12.5% and sits behind 3AW’s 12.7% which lost 0.9 points.

Gold’s drop in Monday to Friday was driven by its one point slide in drive where it now takes a 6.3% share and its 0.8 point drop in breakfast.

In Brisbane, ARN’s 97.3FM leapt two points to claim 12.5% of the breakfast slot. The jump sees the station overtake SCA’s B105, part of the Today Network, with a lead of more than two points.

B105 added to the Today Network’s drops with a slight 0.3 point decrease to its breakfast share.

The largest drop in Brisbane’s breakfast was felt by leader Nova 106.9 which lost 1.4 points to take 12.6%. As a result 97.3FM is now hot on Nova’s heels with only 0.1 points separating the stations.

B105 performed better in drive where it added half a point to maintain its grip on second-place with 13.6%. However, Triple M lost 1.1 points to take 7.9%.

B105’s growth continued in drive where it added 1.7 points to take 11.7%.

In Adelaide, only two stations posted increases in drive with the rest all faced with decreases.

DMG Radio Australia’s Fiveaa increased its dominance in the market by 1.4 points to take 17% while ARN’s Cruise1323 added 1.3 points to claim 6.7%.

The Today Network’s SAFM experienced the largest drop of 1.5 points while Mix 102.3 dropped one point to 13.4%.

Nova 91.9 also suffered a drop of more than point which reduced its share to 10.4%.

SAFM was also dealt the breakfast slot’s biggest drop of 2.1 points. The plunge resulted in the station dropping out of breakfast’s top four.

Triple M increased its share of breakfast by 1.8 points.

Perth provided the plug to the Today Network’s leak of breakfast listeners as 92.9 bucked the trend and added one point to take 9.5%.

However, the increase did not carry over in to drive where the station lost one point and decreased its share to 11.9%.

Classic music station 6IX lost the most drive listeners, as its share fell to 4.9% after a 1.6 point loss.

Nova 93.7 was granted the slot’s largest increase of 1.3% which resulted in the station increasing its share from 11.9% to 13.2%.
