More than 30,000 are reported missing in Australia every year, to help combat this the Outdoor Media Association (OMA) has donated ad space for the 2013 National Missing Persons Week (NMPW).
NMPW 2013 runs from July 28 to August 3 and is the fifth time the OMA’s members have supported the cause, donating $210,000 in free advertising space.
Participating member companies include APN Outdoor, JCDecaux, oOh! Media, ROVA and Torchmedia with printing services provided by Cactus Imaging.
The tagline of this year’s NMPW is “People living with a mental illness are at a greater risk of going missing”, as it focuses on the link between mental health and missing persons.
This year’s campaign focuses on the cases of missing persons Bethany Neville who was last seen in Sydney’s Central Station and John Hinkley who was last seen in Umina in the Central Coast of NSW.
In NSW last year 12,409 people were reported missing with 84 of those people still missing.
NSW Police Assistant Commissioner Peter Barrie said the police are “very grateful” to have the support of the OMA.
“This advertising is invaluable in raising the public awareness of missing persons. A picture truly is worth one thousand words in our search for missing persons such as Bethany and John. I thank the members of the OMA for their on-going support and contribution."
