13.6 Million UK Viewers Watch Prince Philip’s Funeral

According to the Broadcasters Audience Research Board, across three channels, the total viewership of the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral was over 13 million.

The service, which took place on the grounds of Windsor Castle, was attended to by members of the Royal Family and close friends of the Duke.

His coffin was carried in a customised Land Rover that the Duke designed himself.

According to the data, shared by the BBC, the service was viewed by 11 million people on the BBC, 2.1 million on ITV and approximately 450,000 on Sky.

BBC’s YouTube live stream of the event secured 7.5 million global viewers from the funeral itself to the next morning.

Other Royal Family ceremonies have also received significant viewership.

The wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, pealed at around 26.3 million viewers in the UK. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, had peak UK viewing figures of 18 million.

In 1997, the funeral of Princess Diana received 31 UK million viewers, a record-breaking figure.
