While session one of The Ashes finished on Gem and sports fans briefly returned to normal sleeping patterns, the second episode of Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year Asia stepped in to win over television screens for Nine last night.
The comedy duo took 1.49m viewersas the most highly rated program of the Monday evening, according to OzTam’s preliminary figures. The usual favourite, The Block Sky High, came in 2nd, with its steady million followers reaching 1.447m. The comedy and reno scheduling along with the 5th highest rating show, A Current Affair (1.68m viewers), combined to give Nine an audience share of 33.7% for the night, though down from 37.8% on Sunday after day five of The Ashes’ first session.
ABC saw a jump of five per cent in audience share on Sunday up to 20.2%. The network’s highest rating spot after the news (1.008m and 7th place) was Australian Story in 12th place with 826,000 viewers, while Media Watch had 15th place with 784,000 viewers and Four Corners’ in-depth report on the Chicago bombers took 17th spot thanks to 764,000 viewers. Interesting, many of ABC’s audience didn't stick around for Q&A with the panel discussion missing out on its usual place in the tail-end of the top 20.
Seven had 25.8% of audiences last night. The news was its highest rating program with 1.314m viewers and 4th place on the top 20 while Home & Away, Highway Patrol and Border Security International had 8th, 9th and 10th place.
Channel Ten missed out on the top ten with MasterChef being the network's highest rating program at 14th place with 800,000 viewers, while the premier of its new, live crime-solving program hosted by Sandra Sully & Matt Doran missed out on the top 20. The network had 16.2% of audiences last night.
SBS had 4.1% audience share.
