The Brief – the Future of TV Content

In The Brief this week Maddie Ross speaks one-on-one with new Shine America CEO, Rich Ross, about trends in TV content production and its future in a multi-platform world.

Is scripted TV the new reality? What place do tent-pole shows have in today’s fragmented media landscape? What genres are the hardest to sell to networks right now?

With a proliferation of content producers in the last five years, including tech-giants Microsoft, Amazon, Netflix and Hulu creating and producing their own original series, Ross talks us through the impact of this on the big, traditional production houses.

He also discusses the potential of brand-funded content as mainstream entertainment, and tells us how the pressure to be multiplatform is changing things at a production level.

Ross joined Shine from his role of chairman at Walt Disney Studios in January. He spoke with us following his keynote address at the Australian Subscription Television and Radio Association Conference (ASTRA) last week.

Take a look.
