Groupon Australia CEO promoted to APAC role

Groupon Australia’s German CEO Tobias Teuber has been handed the task of improving the group buying site’s fortunes across Asia-Pacific.

In a profile interview featured in the current edition of B&T Magazine Teuber, 33, said he expects only an handful of the 40 group buying sites in Australia to survive in the “winner takes all market”.

The former paratrooper said improvements in customer care are the reason the local site has become the number one in Australia, according to Telsyte statistics.

Teuber was one of four founders of the Australian site in 2011 and will now have a remit of covering  New Zealand, Indonesia, Philippines, India, Thailand, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong in his new role as international vice president APAC.

Alistair Venn has been appointed co-CEO of the Australian operation.

Teuber said: “I’m extremely honoured to be taking on a leadership role for nine APAC countries and am thrilled to be driving the strategy behind some of Groupon’s most exciting markets.

“2013 is going to be a big year and I’m looking forward to the challenge ahead. We work in pursuit of one goal: to help improve the experience for Groupon customers across the Asia-Pacific region.”
