To mark the App Store’s fifth anniversary Apple is giving away up to 10 of its most popular apps for free to every user.

The App Store launched in 2008 and to celebrate the half-a-decade milestone Apple is giving away five “landmark games” and five “groundbreaking” apps.

Apps up for grabs include How to Cook Everything and Traktor DJ. Games available for free during the promotion period include Badland, Inifinity Blade and children friendly games, Tiny Wings and Where’s My Water.

To mark the anniversary B&T has assembled a panel of five digital and mobile experts to reveal the apps on their phones. See the next issue of B&T Magazine, available from July 16, for a guide to some of the most useful, entertaining, weird and wacky apps on the market.

Meanwhile, the long-running dispute between Apple and Amazon over the use of the term ‘Appstore’ is over.

Apple filed a suit in 2011 claiming that Amazon’s use of the term ‘Appstore’ infringed Apple’s rights to App Store. The case was dropped in the US on Tuesday.

"With more than 900,000 apps and 50 billion downloads, customers know where they can purchase their favourite apps," Apple said in a statement.
