If you were worried about your privacy being breached before, a new website has reared its head to give your fears some foundations.

This new website, known as Swipebuster, claims to let users find out whether people are using Tinder, simply by lifting data that’s already public and not even breaking the law a little bit.

Sure, it seems dodgy, but Swipebuster is adamant that everything it’s doing is completely above board, as it’s just utilising Tinder’s API to access information, which is typically used by developers building other services to intersect with the app anyway.

Swipebuster charges $4.99 for three searches, and asks users to submit the first name, gender and age of the person they want to spy on, as well as taking a stab at the last location they might have used the app in.

And while the site just screams jealous people looking for sleazy cheating partners, the site’s (anonymous) creator says it’s all about exposing how much of our details are available to anyone online.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, he said, “There is too much data about people that people themselves don’t know is available.”

“Not only are people oversharing and putting out a lot of information about themselves, but companies are also not doing enough to let people know they’re doing it.”

Tinder apparently couldn’t care less about the new site, with a spokesperson telling VF that “searchable information on the website is public information that Tinder users have on their profiles”.

“If you want to see who’s on Tinder we recommend saving your money and downloading the app for free.”
