What the 30 Under 30 Award meant for me

I cabbed it alone to the 30 Under 30 awards ceremony last July.  I hadn’t paid for a second ticket for someone to come with me as a) I didn’t think I’d be winning anything so early on and b) my start-up budget wouldn’t stretch to the $60 ticket for a guest.   My baby business was only two months and two days old.

I almost dropped my glass when Tim read out my name as a winner in the Specialist category and in the absence of a date, a nice lady from Fairfax took a photo of me with my trophy to send to my mum.

Winning the award gave me huge encouragement that the industry valued what I was doing, and it also put my business on the map.  The credibility it brought to a first-of-its-kind start-up was invaluable, and the B&T team have continued to be great supporters.

The Remarkables Group has tripled in size since I won the award six months ago – we now represent 12 of the leading bloggers in Australia, we’ve got a superstar team of three and we’re recruiting again.   Happily, revenues have also consistently increased – so the tickets are on me this year!
