Mary’s Newtown Lambasted Over “Satanic” Jesus Christ Easter Ad

Popular burger joint Mary’s Newtown has been blasted over a controversial Easter advertisement it posted on Facebook.

The burger bar published the post on Wednesday to announce they would be open over the Easter weekend.

The controversial ad read: “Jesus got hammered for his sins, you can too.” The image posted alongside the caption is of Jesus Christ holding a cigarette and beer.

Followers of the page were quick to call out the ad, with many calling it disrespectful.

One person wrote: “Absolutely disgusting! Not only should they take it down, they should also apologise for such a disrespectful act!”

Others vowed to never eat at Mary’s again, with one writing: “We were regulars eating here every week. Wow. I’m never eating here again, you just lost my service.”

Some people took it one step further by taking to the restaurant’s Google reviews and leaving one-star reviews, calling the burger bar “Satanic”.

Not everyone was offended by the ad, however.

One person wrote: “Am I the only one who sees the funny side in this?”

The Facebook post has since been removed, which was celebrated as a win by a Facebook group called Christian Lives Matter.

The group said they would organise a prayer group at the door of the restaurant on Good Friday unless Mary’s deleted the post.
