Ten entries win in Media Lions; Google claims Grand Prix

Ten Australian entries picked up metal in the Media Lions, led by George Patterson Y&R Melbourne for Australian Defence Force, ‘Mobile Medic’.

OMD Sydney and Starcom, the only two media agencies both won Media goings, as did Ogilvy & Mather for ‘Share a Coke’, Whybin\TBWA\Tequila, Wonder and JWT.

New Zealand walked away with four Lions.

The Grand Prix was awarded to Manning Gottlieb OMD London for Google ‘Google Voice Search’ which used outdoor posters with targeted messages near places of interest in London to promote its voice search functionality.

Jury chair Mainardo de Nardis, CEO of OMD Worldwide said the judges looked for “authentic” campaigns and only awarded metals to those entries that truly deserved it.

Australia won four Media Lions in 2011 while New Zealand left empty handed.

Dan Johns, CEO at Ikon, represented Australia on the jury while Louise Bond, CEO of Spark PHD was on for New Zealand.

There were 138 entries from Australia in the category this year, slightly up from the 127 in 2011. New Zealand submitted 39.
