AUSTEREO is continuing to secure a strong audience with the under 40s in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide, while Alan Jones has increased his lead in breakfast, according to the Nielsen Media Research’s fifth radio survey for the year.
In Sydney, Macquarie Radio Network-owned 2GB’s presenter Jones is continuing to entrench his position as the number one breakfast program, increasing his lead by 1.2 points to 16.7%. Its talk back rival Southern Cross Broadcasting’s 2UE maintained third spot and increased its ratings by 0.9 points to 8.4%.
The gains posted by Austereo’s 2MMM in the last survey, in the 25-39 demographic, were added to with a 4.2 points increase to 18.3%. And while its breakfast program dipped by 0.2 point to 7.6%, it sustained growth in all other time slots.
Its sister station, 2DayFM saw little positive change, with its beleaguered breakfast team still working towards regaining a greater audience share, but notching up a 0.3 point increase to 5.9%.
DMG Radio’s Nova maintained its lead in the 18-24 demographic, although it slipped 0.8 points, and it also maintained second spot in the breakfast slot.
In Melbourne, the top three breakfast spots were maintained by Southern Cross’ 3AW, 3MMM and Nova 100, respectively, although 3AW decreased its lead by 0.2 points, from 19.8% to 19.6%.
3MMM increased its lead in the 25-39 demographic, while Austereo’s FoxFM jumped from third to second position in the 18-24 demographic, with a 4.2 point increase to 22%.
In Brisbane, Austereo’s B105 dropped by 0.8 points to 18.7%, but maintained its lead over MMM and Southern Cross’ 4BC—both of which posted increases. MMM continued making headway in its breakfast show increasing by 1.5 points to 13.6%.
And in Adelaide, as Austereo and ARN await the commencement of DMG’s newest Nova station, SAFM is breathing easy for now, increasing its first place position in the 25-39 demographic by 0.2 points to 30.6%. It also jumped from second to first spot in the breakfast slot by 0.1 points to 19.2%, beating DMG’s 5AA, which slipped by 3.1 points to 16.8%.
In Perth, Austereo’s 94.5FM increased its lead in the breakfast show by 0.8 points to 18.9%, while its stable mate, 92.9 stayed in third place, but dropped by 3.0 points to 11.2%.
ABC720 maintained second position in breakfast and increased its rating by 0.3 points to 15.2%.
Nova 93.7 has increased its lead among 18-24s by 2.4 points to 27.7%, and Southern Cross’ 96FM took over from 94.5FM’s lead in the 25-39 demographic, increasing by 2.2 points to 22.8%.
And Nova 93.7 made great gains in this particular demographic, increasing its share by 5.2 points to 16.5%, and maintaining third spot.
