Hamish McLennan, CEO of Y&R Brands Australia and NZ,is heading to New York following his promotion to worldwide CEO of Y&R Brands, ending an 18-month search for a new boss to turn around the Madison Avenue-headquartered giant.
McLennan will take over from Ann Fudge, who will remain worldwide chair and CEO of Y&R Brands.
Matt McGrath, group CD and MD of George Patts Y&R Sydney, will take over as CEO for Y&R Brands Australia.
McLennan joined Y&R in 2002, from George Patterson Bates Melbourne, where he was national managing director.
Last year he managed the two agencies' merger into George Patterson Y&R.
As head of Y&R Brands in New Zealand and Australia, McLennan oversaw more than a dozen agencies, quadrupling revenues over the past four years.
McLennan has also held top posts at Bates' offices in Hong Kong and Sydney.

McLennan, 40, was recently named as selected as one of GQ magazine’s 50 Most Powerful Australians.
He will be commuting between Sydney and New York in the lead up to his August move to the Big Apple.
McLennan will remain chairman of Y&R brands Australia.
