Wrinkly rockers Status Quo have recorded a three minute version of their Down Down hit mixing in words from the Coles ad jingle.
The British band can be seen “strumming” away on Big red Hand guitars and mixing the lyrics “Down down, prices are down” into the original tune in an ad for the supermarket.
At the end of the tongue-in-cheek video one of the producers says “You don’t think people will find this annoying do you?” before being being told by the band “No, saving money is never annoying”.
Cut-down versions of the commercial will be used as TVCs for Coles, and the band will feature in radio and print ads.
Yesterday the supermarket became one of the first major brands to promise to caption its TV ads in future, although there are no captions included on the YouTube video.
