As exclusively revealed in B&T last month, ACP has confirmed that it has signed a deal to bring Grazia magazine to Australia.
ACP will launch a local edition of the fashion-led weekly owned by Mondadori – Italy’s biggest consumer magazine publisher – next year.
In its Australian guise, the internationally successful Grazia will be a direct challenge for not only the weeklies but also monthly fashion titles such as News Magazines’ local edition of Vogue.
ACP has made no secret of its desire to launch Grazia after being brought closer to Mondadori in September through its Emap Australia acquisition.
B&T reported last month that office building work had already begun at the publisher’s Park Street premises to accommodate the magazine.
Scott Lorson, ACP’s chief executive officer, said Grazia was the “perfect complement” to the publisher’s existing stable.
“Grazia is a truly unique and exceptional magazine that is held in the highest regard by publishers, advertisers, designers, and fashion forward audiences around the world,” Lorson said.
“The team at ACP Magazines have often looked to Grazia for ideas and inspiration, and it is now a true honour to introduce Grazia to the Australian market.”
Roberto Briglia, general manager of magazines at the Mondadori Group, said Grazia was a good fit for the Australian “celebrity and fashion-loving” market.
“Australian consumers are internationally renowned for their love of magazines, fashion and celebrity and we are very pleased to partner with ACP Magazines to bring Grazia to Australia,” Briglia said.
Industry observers speculate the local edition of Grazia will follow its British counterpart and deliver content slightly downmarket from the high-end Italian publication.
Grazia is published in eight territories to date and will expand into the Asia Pacific next year with editions in India, Thailand and China.
The title’s Australian edition will also be available in New Zealand.
