McDonald’s promotes wireless dining

McDonald's Australia has launched a promotion offering its customers free use of its new Telstra wireless service to build awareness of the service.

The fast food giant has completed the rollout of Telstra Wireless Hotspots to 150 stores and is this month is giving anyone with a WiFi compatible laptop or handheld device a hour’s free use.

McDonald's Australia chief executive officer Guy Russo said McDonalds now had the biggest private WiFi network in Australia.

He said he expected that by the end of this year more than 200 metropolitan and regional McDonald’s restaurants would be installed with WiFi and by mid 2005 the number would be more than 400.

Russo said he expected the service would appeal to business people and others who needed online access quickly.

“WiFi hotspots are becoming even easier to find as our network grows - making them increasingly attractive to business people who need the flexibility to work on the move, and to anyone else who wants to get online quickly and easily at broadband speed," Russo said.

He said each WiFi McDonald’s store would feature a blue Telstra Wireless Hotspot sticke flaggin the fact.
