BMW signs directors as films series continues

BMW is gearing up for the next stage of its innovative digital film series “The Hire”, shown on its BMWfilms.com Web site—a winner of the 2002 Cannes International Advertising Festival Cyber Lion Grand Prix award.

It recently signed another three distinguished Hollywood directors to make the next three short films.

The new directors are John Woo, Tony Scott and Joe Carnahan, directors of Windtalkers, Top Gun and NARC, respectively.

“The Hire” series of short films features BMW vehicles, with each film made forBMWfilms.com by leading directors. Previous directors include Guy Ritchie, David Fincher and Ang Lee.

A hybrid of cinema and advertising, the initial five films debuted last year on website BMWFilms.com with actors such as Mickey Rourke and Madonna.

For the concept, US ad agency Fallon Minneapolis and BMW of North America took home Best of Show at the One Show and One Show Interactive Awards, two Grand Clios at the Clio Awards and a Cannes Grand Prix for the campaign.

Executive producers on the project will be renowned film-making brothers Ridley Scott (Black Hawk Down), Tony Scott (Spy Game) and Jules Daly through the Scott brothers, production company RSA-USA.
