Nova 96.9 has closed the gap in the battle to claim the number one commercial FM radio station spot in Sydney, narrowing rival 2Day FM’s lead to just 0.5 points.
The DMG-owned station recorded a 8.7% total audience share, up 0.6 points compared to Austereo’s 2Day FM’s 9.2%, which was up by 0.5 points, according to survey five radio ratings from Nielsen Media Research.
However 2Day FM breakfast duo Kyle and Jackie O regained the number one FM breakfast show in the city after losing the position to Nova’s Merrick and Rosso in the last survey.
2Day FM breakfast show averaged a 9.2% audience share, just 0.1 points ahead of Nova at 9.1%.
Macquarie Radio Network’s 2GB remains the highest rating commercial station in the city with an audience share of 13.7%, followed by 2Day FM and Nova.
In Melbourne, 3AW retains its vice-like hold, recording an increase of 1.3 points to 14.7% share of total audience. Austereo’s Fox FM came in equal second at 10.2%, down 0.4 points along with ABC 774. Nova 100 was unchanged at 9.7% taking third spot. The biggest loser in Melbourne was Australian Radio Network’s classic hits station Gold FM which slipped 1.4 points to 8.7% total share, taking fourth place.
Nova 106.9 in Brisbane remains the highest rating station in the city, despite a 0.8 point drop to 14.3%. Austereo’s Triple M was second earning an 11.6% share, down 0.2 points from the last survey while stable mate B105 recorded the biggest listener increase of 1.4 points to 10.6%. ARN’s 97.3 FM was third at 10.7% down 0.4 points from the previous survey.
Adelaide’s Mix 102.3, owned by ARN took the number one spot in the city from DMG’s 5AA, after it plummeted 2.3 points to 15.9% share compared to Mix which was up a marginal 0.2 points at 17%. Nova 91.9 was third at 11.6% total share, up 0.3 points. Austereo’s SAFM was the fourth highest rating commercial station at 10.7%, down 0.3 points.
Perth’s Nova station, 93.7, slipped from second position to fourth in the commercial radio ratings, showing a drop of 0.4 points to 11.2%. Southern Cross Broadcasting’s music station 96FM moves into second place with a one point rise to 12.5% share, while Today Network’s 92.9 moved into third from fourth with a 0.8 point rise and 11.5% share. Austereo’s Mix 94.5 remained the number one radio station, despite a one point drop to 16.8 % share.
