The Gruen Transfer has become the highest-rating entertainment program launch for the ABC, beating Kath & Kim.
The program which covers all things adverting, pulled in a total audience of 1.287 million in its 9pm slot, and was eighth in the overall TV ratings last night.
It edged out Kath & Kim as the most successful entertainment launch since people meter data was introduced in 1991. Kath & Kim pulled in 1.146 million on launch.
It was watched by 421,000 in Sydney, 402,000 in Melbourne, 205,000 in Brisbane, 95,000 in Adelaide and 164,000 in Perth.
Host Wil Anderson quipped: “I’m just glad people watched the ads and didn’t use them as an opportunity to go to the toilet or get a biscuit”.
The Gruen Transfer is produced by Andrew Denton production company Zapruder. There are 10 half-hour episode which will tackle a different ad-related subject each week.
