The Dream to continue?
Larissa Kaye

ROY and HG’s The Dream has broken Australian TV ratings records of its own during the Games, persuading Sydneysiders to watch more late night TV in the past two weeks than they have all year so far.

The previous peak percentage of households watching during the 11pm-1am timeslot this year was 21.1%, while The Dream reached 24.6%.

The domination of the Seven Network in the late night TV timeslot reached cult proportions around the country, helping Seven to at least double the audience share of its nearest network competitor (and multiplying it by six in Sydney).

In Sydney, Rampaging Roy Slaven and HG Nelson (with a little help from Fatso the fat-arsed wombat) captured 69.8% of the viewing audience compared with nearest competitor Network Nine's share of 11.3%.

Nationally, other states have also got into the Olympic spirit, dreaming up a 62.6% share in Melbourne, 57.4% in Brisbane, 51.2% in Adelaide and 41.5% in Perth.

An average peak of 1,326,300 viewers across five capital cities tuned in since the program debuted, with the hottest night being September 23 as 1,725,600 people across the capitals watched.

Rumours circulated this week that Seven would sign Roy and HG to a weekly late night show. A Seven spokesperson said the network was understandably eager to pursue discussions regarding the future of The Dream and other Roy and HG possibilities.

Seven Network programming director Ric Burns said, "We are absolutely delighted with the program and its success. Roy and HG are great talent as is reflected in the sensational ratings of The Dream".
