Satirical television series The Chaser’s War on Everything will air on pay-TV network Foxtel from next year, with a new local series from the Chaser team also set to launch.
For the first time since it launched on the ABC in 2006, the series will be advertiser supported. Re-runs of The Chaser’s War on Everything will be run on the Comedy Channel with a new local series to be produced exclusively for Foxtel by the team next year. The form and content of the new series is yet to be disclosed by Foxtel.
At the MCN 2010 pay-TV program launch in Sydney this morning, Brian Walsh, executive director of television and marketing at Foxtel, announced this new addition to its line-up: “The Chaser, the ABC’s often controversial hit, is moving from the ABC to STV.“ This is the first time this property will be available to advertisers and significantly, the red button will allow subscribers to watch the original series with director’s commentary.
“We’re in discussions with The Chaser, they’re very keen to do a local production for us next year, and that’s on the cards for Comedy (Channel) in 2010.”
Walsh also announced a host of new programs to come out across Foxtel and Austar next year, including a documentary series following the winner of Queensland Tourism’s infamous Best Job in the World campaign on National Geographic.
Other shows to launch include a new “edgy” series, Hung, on Showcase, reality programs The Contender Australia with Anthony Mundene and Ultimate School Musical hosted by Ruby Rose, both on Fox 8, and a four-part series, Pride of Australia, hosted by Sarah Murdoch.
