Wednesday TV Wrap: Sunrise Spikes, Putting 82K On Struggling Today

It was a fairly predictable set of numbers in yesterday’s OzTAM viewer figures save for that little battle for breakfast and a disappointing debut for 10’s Changing Rooms (posting a mere 204,000).

Seven’s Sunrise pulled an impressive 282,000 viewers according to the five city metro numbers, a good 82,000 clear of struggling rival Today.

At this rate, Sunrise could soon be enjoying a commanding 100,000 lead in the morning slot and turn Today from “headache” to “full-blown crisis” for Nine bosses.

Yesterday, Today host Deborah Knight was interviewed by Triple M’s Jane Kennedy and Mick Molloy radio show where the issue of ratings came up.

After Molloy offered to perform an Aerobics Oz Style-like segment on the show to boost is numbers, Knight replied: “We want to boost ratings Mick, we don’t want them to go down any more, goodness me.”

To which Molloy replied: “Well, there’s only one way they could go, which is up” before adding that he, himself, had had two of his shows axed by Channel Nine.

“And if you’re up and about, Richard Wilkins, watch! Tune in!” Molloy finished.

In further TV news, MAFS again dominated last night with 1.29 million viewers, while MKR managed 766,000.

Nine won Wednesday with 33.6 per cent audience share. Seven was second and 30.8 per cent, the ABC took third and 15.7 per cent, 10 had 13.5 per cent and SBS 6.5 per cent.

Other highlights for Seven were its 6pm news (916,000), The Chase (493,000) and Undercurrent: Real Murder Investigation (452,000).

Nine did well with its 6pm news (838,000), ACA (717,000) and New Amsterdam (461,000).

Over at 10, 10 News First (365,000), The Project (323,000) and Law & Order: SVU (206,000) were the order of its evening.

The ABC’s night ran thus: 7pm news (612,000), Hard Quiz (607,000) 7.30 (545,000) and Rosehaven (429,000).

Over at the SBS, its best was McMafia  that pulled 188,000.
