Wednesday TV Wrap: The Bachelorette Soars On Debut (But Can’t Knock-Off The Block)

Network Ten appear to have a winner on its hands after The Bachelorette debuted to a very healthy 951,000 last night.

The network’s decision to use Sophie Monk over an unknown singleton appears to have been a stroke of marketing genius.

Ten also had one of its best nights for a long time, however, still had to take an agonising third spot overall.

Nine won the night with 27.4 per cent, Seven was second with 25 per cent, Ten had 23.4 per cent, the ABC had 16.7 per cent and SBS had 7.4 per cent.

To its credit, Nine’s The Block managed to stave off The Bachelorette, topping the night with 1.03 million.

Interestingly, the ABC’s Gruen managed 773,000, but was down some 130,000 from its debut last week.

Seven’s 6pm news (950,000) beat rival Nine (910,000). Also for Seven, Border Security managed 619,000, The Chase had 555,000 and The Force had 462,000.

A Current Affair (786,000), Doctor Doctor (645,000), Hot Seat (475,000 / 277,000), Embarrassing Bodies Revisits (212,000) comprised Nine’s night.

Gruen led the ABC’s night of comedy, followed by the 7pm news (738,000), 7:30 (578,000), Hard Quiz (576,000), Get Krack!n (378,000), Grand Designs (220,000), The Edge of the Bush (183,000) and Adam Hills: The Last Leg (157,000).

Best for SBS was Extreme Railway Journeys with 268,000.
