Uber Set To Give Taxis A Licking With Ice-Cream Promo This Friday!

Global ride sharing app Uber are once again trying to prove it’s better than taxis by teaming up with Gelato Messina for a one day only event. This Friday July 24, Uber drivers will be delivering free ice cream to businesses.

Starting at 11am, Uber users can log into the app and enter the promotional code ‘IceCreamOz’ and their location. Uber drivers will then be delivering an exclusive Gelato Messina ice cream flavour: hazelnut gelato with white chocolate, hazelnut fudge, chocolate chips and cream filled wafers.

Existing Uber users will be charged $15, while first time users get their ice cream free of charge.

#UberIceCream promotion is being run in Sydney, Parramatta, Wollongong, Byron Bay, Canberra, Melbourne, Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Townsville, Cairns, Hobart, Adelaide, Perth and Bunbury.

This isn’t the first time that Uber has pulled a crazy promotional scheme, the (technically illegal) car sharing app has delivered kittens, burgers and Eels players.

Kittens:

In early February, Uber began delivering kittens to customers in Sydney, Melbourne, Geelong, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Perth. For $40, kittens were delivered for a 15-minute pat and hug.

According to Uber Australia:

  • All shelters saw an increase in web traffic, online donations and social followers as a result of #UberKITTENS
  • Over 100 kitten visits took place across Australia, with over $15,000 raised for participating shelters.
  • #UberKITTENS was trending on Twitter with over 3,200 mentions across the day
  • Over 2,000 #UberKITTENS pics were shared on Instagram

Burgers:

Earlier this year, Uber announced an ongoing partnership with OzHarvest in support of their mission to eradicate food wastage and nourish our country.

Between 12-2pm Uber delivered close to 1,000 lunches on-demand across Australia with 100 per cent of proceeds going direct to OzHarvest.

Eels:

Uber teamed up with the Parramatta Eels to give five lucky passengers the chance to ride with an Eels player to their game against the Bulldogs.

Take that taxi drivers.
