TV personality and comedian Tom Gleeson has begun campaigning for Grant Denyer to win the Gold Logie at Sunday’s award show.

Denyer has been nominated for hosting the recently-axed Family Feud, and Gleeson is now determined to have him win Gold for a show no longer on-air.

The Gold Logie is awarded to the ‘Most Popular Personality on Australian Television’, a title Gleeson found hysterical given Family Feud was canned due to its poor ratings.

Gleeson announced he would be backing Denyer during his tongue-in-cheek interview show Hard Chat last night, which featured the ex-Family Feud host as its guest.

During the interview, Gleeson said, “The Gold Logie is supposed to go to the most popular person on TV. Your show was axed due to low ratings, on the third highest-rating network.”

“That just doesn’t make sense.”

Gleeson added, “Let’s get an axed show to win the Gold Logie.”

“Cause the Logies are an absolute joke.”

Gleeson then appeared on ABC News Breakfast this morning, sporting a ‘Denyer 4 Gold’ t-shirt and gifting the entire studio audience #Denyer4Gold flags.

During the chat, ABC News Breakfast host Del Irani played a soundbite of Sunrise host Karl Stefanovic claiming he would back ABC News Breakfast host Michael Rowland for a Gold Logie next year.

Gleeson responded promising he would spend his time campaigning for Denyer this year and back Rowland in 2019.

The Logies will be taking place this Sunday 1 July in the Gold Coast.

Yesterday, it was reported Denyer was forced to apologise to Network Ten execs following comments he made on-air during his 2DayFM Breakfast with Em, Grant & Ed program.

“We’re probably guilty, if anything, of driving it into the ground a little bit too early,” Denyer said on radio.

Denyer also made headlines for gatecrashing the ‘Cash Cow’ segment of Sunrise yesterday morning to promote his Grant For Gold Logie campaign.

According to a tweet posted by Sunrise, “The Sunrise panel were in hysterics as Denyer danced with the Cash Cow who was giving away $30,000.”
