Thorpe Pulls Short Of Million

The much anticipated interview between talk-show legend Sir Michael Parkinson and Australian Olympic swimmer Ian Thorpe didn’t manage to crack the million mark for Ten.

The widely publicised interview in which Thorpe confirmed his sexual orientation and talked about his battle with alcohol nabbed 982,000 viewers in a five city metro on Ten from 6-7.30pm.

The interview came in at number at number eight in the top 20 most watched shows for the day, with the launch of the X-Factor on Seven the most watched non-news program with 1.226 million viewers.

The premiere of Ten’s new drama, Extant, also made it into the top 20 last night 614,000 viewers, coming in 16th place.

The bigger picture from last night saw Seven take out the highest combined share of 31.2% as Nine came second with 26.8%.

Even with the Thorpe interview and the Extant premiere, Ten came third with a total share of 21.3%.

ABC and SBS came fourth and fifth respectively with 14.9% and 5.8%.
