The Return Of Gruen Hits Nearly One Mil, Boosts ABC Ratings

The return of advertising show the Gruen Transfer on ABC last night, with Wil Anderson as host and ad execs Todd Sampson and Russell Howcroft, saw the show the most watched non-news program for the evening.

The return of Gruen saw 947,000 people tune in to the show on, and came in fourth in the top 20 most watched shows from last night, according to OzTam preliminary ratings.

The second most watched non-news show was Ten’s The Bachelor with 920,000 viewers, coming in seventh place.

The show’s comeback meant ABC just beat out Ten to come in third place with a daily share of 20.8 per cent. Network Ten had a 20.7 per cent.

Seven won the night overall with a 27.3 per cent share, with Nine in second place with 24.8 per cent.

SBS had a share of 6.3 per cent.

The Gruen trio had had a two year hiatus, however the return had the ABC and Anderson giddy.

Jon Casimir, ABC TV head of entertainment said at the announcement of the return: “After the show took a well-earned break in 2014, we’re seriously excited to have Wil and Gruen back, lifting the lid on advertising, spin and marketing, examining how we are sold to, and how we are sold.”

Anderson added: “I couldn’t be more excited to be working with the amazing team at CJZ on a new series of Gruen. And I’m even more grateful they didn’t replace me with Adam Hills.”
